of this thing in iowa. we got a picture out of this of hedrick east of cedar rapids and des moines. this is massive it went on to do some damage. this is an area over the next several hours that'sre really wd about. we have a huge tornado watch out and blizzard warnings from southern minnesota back to the dakotas. from mason city to milwaukee, chicago, you're in it, too, all the way back to just east of dallas, that's the long area of tornado watches and we've got ongoing warnings. those two pink areas, a very rare high-risk area with a strong jet stream -- not only these strong thunderstorms and tornadoes but they're moving very quickly. 55-60 miles per hour. so here we go. everything crosses the mississippi over the next several hours. chicago, you're going to get slammed with this. overnight tonight, looking at nashville, back to cincinnati in the early morning hours getting through atlanta and then it goes into the northeast. a round coming in the morning and another round coming in the afternoon. it could be very, very dangerous

here as well. we're talking about the potential for damaging winds, large hail and an isolated tornado from pittsburgh to new york to boston to albany. whether you live in the northeast or the midwestern storm zone tonight, have a safety plan and be ready when the warnings hit. david? >> david: rob mars yonno with us tracking these tornadoes into the night. rob, thank you. we move into the indictment of former president trump by a manhattan grand jury. the first time a former president, of course, has ever been criminally charged. tonight, sources telling abc news the former president could surrender to authorities in new york as soon as tuesday. the exact charges in this indictment are not yet known but sources say there could be about two dozen separate charges here. law enforcement officials already in lower manhattan tonight outside and inside manhattan criminal court today preparing for the former president's appearance. tonight here what we've now learned about what this now could all look like, what the american people could see play out early next week. here is our senior investigative reporter erin in lower manhattan

tonight. >> reporter: tonight, sources tell abc news former president donald trump will surrender to authorities in new york on tuesday and be booked at the courthouse as a criminal defendant. until then, the indictment against him remains sealed but sources familiar with the case tell us trump is facing around two dozen counts including felonies stemming from a $130,000 hush payment to porn actress stormy daniels in the closing weeks in the 2016 campaign. >> did you know about the $130,000 payment to to stormy daniels? >> reporter: at first trump denied knowing about the payment but later admitted he did. his legal team claims he arranged it not to protect his campaign but to protect his family. it's not the only hush payment that the grand jury heard about. sources tell abc news prosecutors also presented evidence of a $150,000 payment to a second woman. playboy model karen mcdougall. >> there was a real relationship there. there were real feelings between the two of us. >> reporter: mcdougall claims

she had an affair with trump in 2006 and was paid off by trump's friends at the "national enquirer" in august of 2016 shortly before the election. the former president has denied both affairs and today, his defense attorney promised a vigorous fight. >> we'll proceed to see a judge at some point, plead not guilty, um, start talking about filing motions which we will do immediately, um, and very aggressively. >> reporter: trump has repeatedly attacked district attorney alvin bragg, even posting a picture of himself holding a photo of bragg. today, he lashed out at the judge who will preside over his case. security around the courthouse has now stepped up and police are bracing for protests on the day trump arrives. >> david: aaron live outside of the courthouse in lower manhattan tonight. aaron, the former president expected to arrive in new york as early as monday and then as you just reported on tuesday, he's expected to surrender to authorities. still so many unanswered questions here, what this could look like, of course and what the american people might
